I went back and forth regarding working with a doula during my pregnancy/birth. I did a few searches, and while I found several qualified individuals in the vicinity I not once found a doula of color before stumbling upon The Peoples Doula on Yelp. I’m big on reviews and noticed that she didn’t have any and found out via her Facebook page that she’s a newly certified doula. All of that didn’t matter to me. I knew without a doubt after our consultation appointment that she was the doula for me and I couldn’t have been more correct. Shaquan is warm, easily accessible, and most importantly knowledgeable . My birth went anything but to plan but it was invaluable to have her presence and support to help me through something I’d never done before. I would recommend her in a heartbeat.
I have to start this review by saying that this is Shaquan’s calling! I was pregnant with my second child after 10 years and I had a horrible birthing experience my first time around. It was extremely important for me to try my best to do this naturally this time even though I was terrified of the pain (terrified of the unknown). Shaquan made my birthing experience extremely calming and comfortable for both me & dad. We learned a lot as well. I would recommend her to the world if I could! Having her with me made a world of difference this time around.
If you are looking for a doula, you need to consider Shaquan! She recently assisted with the home birth of our fourth child and we couldn’t be happier. Her calm presence and reassurance made a big difference to both me and my husband while I was in labor. January 21 was one of the most beautiful days of my life. Thanks to you Shaquan for your support!I gave birth to my second child after 10 years and boy was I scared. I was able to enjoy the experience in a different, more confident way from 10 years ago. She was very knowledgeable when it came to soothing my pains and helping me keep going after many scary moments with baby’s heart rate going up and down. She reassured me I was delivering natural. After 18 hours of intense labor and almost being ready to just give up, she continued to encourage me with her techniques, music, and reassurance of getting through it. I used her breathing technique with every contraction and I delivered a healthy baby boy with three 10 count pushes!!! I want to thank you so much Shaquan for your services and support!!
